What is the difference between 50Hz and 60Hz?

The difference between 50Hz and 60Hz means that a cycle of power is different by approximately 0.0033 seconds. In many parts of Europe, power is delivered at a frequency of 50Hz, whereas in the United States 60Hz is the typical voltage frequency.
50Hz and 60Hz frequencies are not interchangeable, which is why electrical plugs are different for each frequency. As far as functionality is concerned, the major difference is in motor performance. A motor will spin at different revolutions per minute, depending on the frequency provided. This is due to the synchronization of the motor coils to the power grid.
