Cotton, a fiber grown in warm climates around the world, is used to make a variety of items, including home furnishings, industrial products and fabrics. Cotton sateen is a type of cotton fabric with a smooth feel which comes from its satin weave construction.
The Cotton Incorporated website, which promotes cotton usage, lists cotton sateen among 64 different types of cotton fabric. Among them are denim, lace, gauze, corduroy, velvet, velour and flannel. The United States has historically been the world’s third largest producer of cotton, behind China and India. Between 2010 and 2012, America produced 17 million bales of cotton. Texas is America’s leading cotton-producer.
