What is the difference between a flounder and a fluke?

There are no differences between the two, because fluke is one of the common names of the summer flounder. Other names for this fish include common flounder, flatfish, turbot and chicken halibut.
Summer flounder are found all along the Atlantic coast and are important to commercial and recreational fishers. Their distance from the shore depends on the temperature of the water. These opportunistic feeders, camouflaged by a speckled brown color and flat body, spend most of their adulthood buried in the sand waiting to ambush unsuspecting prey as it swims past. Although they can grow to 3 feet in length, summer flounder are preyed upon by larger fish, rays and sharks.
