What is the difference between turbinado sugar and regular sugar?
By Forinfos - 20/02/2025 - 0 comments
Turbinado sugar comes from the first pressing of sugar cane. Turbinado is less refined than brown or white regular sugar, meaning it contains slightly more natural molasses and trace nutrients.
Turbinado sugar is light-brown with large grains and draws its name from the processing method. Raw sugar cane syrup is boiled until sugar crystals form, then spun out in a turbine. Turbinado may be used as a substitute for regular brown or white sugar in some recipes.
Refined white sugar has a 99.9% sucrose content while turbinado has 99% sucrose. Both turbinado and regular sugar contain about 15 calories per teaspoon.
