What are different kinds of quadrilaterals?

There are primarily six different types of quadrilaterals used in geometry. These are parallelogram, rectangle, square, rhombus, kite and trapezoid. Each type of quadrilateral has its own properties.
It is important to note that some quadrilaterals are included in the definition of other quadrilaterals. Square, rhombus and rectangle, for instance, are all special kinds of parallelograms, but since they are so widely used and regarded in daily mathematics, they are grouped in different categories themselves. Quadrilateral means four sides and, therefore, any four-sided shape can be called a quadrilateral provided the sides are straight and the shape is two dimensional.
