Some different varieties of ash trees are black ash, white ash and manna ash. The black ash is native to the northeastern United States and eastern Canada. It grows between 40 and 60 feet tall, and its wood is supple enough to be used for basket weaving.
The white ash is a shade tree that can grow to over 80 feet tall and has attractive fall foliage. Its wood is used to make baseball bats. The manna ash gets its name from its sugary sap. It is native to southern Europe and southwest Asia, and in North America it grows best in hardiness zones 6 to 9. In May, it also produces unusually pretty flowers for an ash tree.
