What is a differential amplifier used for?

A differential amplifier is a device that amplifies the difference between two electronic voltage signals but does not amplify the signals themselves. These amplifiers are primarily used in circuits where one signal is designated for transmission and the other for feedback, to prevent overlap between the two.

Differential amplifiers are used to monitor current and voltage in a circuit. Because they amplify the difference between two currents running through the same circuit, they make it easier to see which current a problem originates with. This data is then used to eliminate differential gain, a kind of audio and visual interference that affects broadcast signals.
