Who discovered the first star?

It is impossible to say who discovered the first star because civilizations studied stars before written history began. However, an ancient Greek astronomer created the first star catalogue in 300 B.C. followed by Hipparchus, who found the first nova around 200 B.C.

After Hipparchus discovered the first nova, astronomers began to discover other types of stars. Chinese astronomers were the first to observe a supernova, while Islamic astronomers in the medieval age were some of the first to invent instruments for measuring the positions of the stars. Finally, Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi was the first to observe galaxies and star clusters in 964 A.D.
