Who discovered Puerto Rico?

Christopher Columbus discovered Puerto Rico on Nov. 19, 1493, during his second voyage from Spain. The island was inhabited by thousands of Taino Indians, who called the island "Boriken," which means "the great land of the valiant and noble Lord." It was later renamed Puerto Rico, which means "rich port."
When Columbus arrived with his crew, the Taino Indians greeted him and showed him a river filled with gold nuggets. They allowed Columbus to take as many nuggets as he wanted. The Taino Indians were peace-loving people who lived in small villages and survived mainly off the tropical crops.
