Who discovered tin?

No one knows who discovered tin because it was known to the ancients. The Romans referred to tin as stannum, and this is reflected in its symbol, Sn. It's also one of the few elements that has an alchemical symbol.

Tin is an elemental metal with an atomic number of 50. It's silvery white, able to be pulled into wire and is capable of being hammered without breaking. However, it has a crystalline structure that makes it a bit brittle.

When tin was first discovered, it was found to be too soft for metalworking. However, someone found that if tin was alloyed with copper, the result was bronze. This led to the Bronze Age.
