Anemia is a disease that is the resultant of a low red blood cell count and low hemoglobin levels. Low hemoglobin levels come from a reduced production of red blood cells or trauma that causes excessive bleeding, states Mayo Clinic.
If red blood cells are destroyed faster than they can be created or they do not work properly, resulting in a low RBC count, then anemia is the resulting disease, according to Lab Tests Online. Anemia is characterized by the amount of oxygen that is able to reach the tissue. Some symptoms of anemia include fatigue, paleness and muscle weakness. The low RBC count is responsible for the majority of these symptoms.
