What is disk boot failure?

Disk boot failure is an error message received on a computer when the operating system fails to boot from the hard drive. The disk boot failure message is commonly seen when installing a new hard drive and requires a CD installation to correct.

A disk boot failure error is sometimes caused by a disk being stuck in the drive, and the disk must be removed before booting. An incorrect boot sequence causes a boot error and requires the BIOS of a computer to be changed to fix the problem. A damaged disk or corrupted system file can also cause the boot error and often requires a fresh install of the operating system.
