What are divorce records in PA?

Divorce records in Pennsylvania are a written account of every divorce granted within the state. Since 1804, divorce records have been kept in the Prothonotary's office in the county where the divorce was granted. Local newspapers also publish notices of divorce in their daily record section.
Divorce records are available from the courthouse in the county where the divorce decree was granted or the marriage license was issued. Divorce records are not available from the Division of Vital Records in Pennsylvania, unlike in some other states. Parties filing for divorce must file several forms indicating the identities of the individuals, the reason for separation and income statements of both parties.
