What is DLP?

Digital Light Processing, or DLP, is a technology developed by Texas Instruments commonly used in different types of video projectors. DLP projectors contain a Digital Micro-mirror Device chip that allows each pixel on it to act as a mirror and amplify the light reflected off the chip.

Two different methods are used by DLP to create a color image, with the first being to implement a separate DLP chip for each primary color. The second, and more cost-effective method, is to use a single DLP chip with a spinning color wheel allowing for the reflection of light off the chip and onto the screen. DLP technology is commonly implemented in places where large projection screens are used, including concert venues and movie theaters.
