Doctors may recommend patients with acid reflux disease change their diets to avoid foods that trigger their symptoms, states WebMD. They may also suggest patients eat small meals throughout the day and eat low-fat, high-protein meals.
There are a plethora of foods that may trigger acid reflux disease, according to WebMD. Beverages such as coffee, carbonated drinks and alcohol may all trigger heartburn. Foods that commonly trigger acid reflux disease include citrus fruits, tomato products, chocolate, fatty foods and spicy foods. By avoiding these foods, patients with acid reflux disease may be able to find some relief from their symptoms.
