What documents should be included in a travel itinerary?

Effective travel itineraries typically include transportation locations with arrival and departure times, destination and accommodation information, a list of planned activities, and confirmation documents. Itineraries are generally presented in a timeline format segmented by day.

Many apps and websites such as TripIt and TripCase exist for creating itineraries. TripIt supplements user-created itineraries with additional documents such as maps, weather predictions and directions. TripCase, on the other hand, synthesizes all of a travelers' confirmation documents into a chronological, timeline format. Most itineraries should be detailed and full, but not so tightly packed that they do not allow room for error or exploration.
