Do dogs feel love?

Dogs do feel love, as they have the same brain construction that humans do in regard to producing emotions, states psychology professor Stanley Coren in Psychology Today. Dog brains also produce oxytocin, the same hormone involved in humans feeling love.

However, dogs don't possess the same range of emotions that humans do. Dogs and humans develop emotions in similar ways. However, whereas the typical human continues to develop emotions, a dog's emotions stop developing at about 4 to 6 months of age. This means that dogs have similar emotional development to an average human child of 2 to 2.5 years old. This lets the dog experience basic emotions such as joy, fear, anger and love.
