Do dogs have night vision?

Dogs have good night vision. Although they are not able to see in the dark as well as cats, dogs function better than humans in low-light conditions. A canine's eyes even seem to glow in the dark, an effect called "eyeshine." This gleam is caused by light reflecting off membranes.
Several features of dogs' eyes help them see well in the dark. Their eyes have relatively large pupils, which allows more light in and enhances night vision. The retinas, located at the back of each eye, are where images focus. Retinas have many rods, which are very responsive to light. The membranes that create eyeshine are also involved. Light that is not picked up by the rods is bounced back to the retinas by the membranes.
