Who is Dora the Explorer?

Dora the Explorer, or Dora Marquez, is the main character on the Nick Jr. show "Dora the Explorer." She is a seven-year-old Latina girl who goes on an adventure every episode with her talking purple backpack, talking map, monkey friend named Boots and preschoolers watching the show.

"Dora the Explorer" aired its first episode August 14, 2000, and as of 2014, 172 episodes have been released. Dora the Explorer has been voiced by three different women. From 2000 to 2008, Dora was voiced by Kathleen Herles, then by Caitlin Sanchez from 2008 to 2010. Fatima Ptacek replaced Sanchez in 2008 and voiced the character through the 2014 season.
