The value of the Dow Jones Industrial Average stock market index as of the beginning of 2015 has gone up over its value at the beginning of 2005. Despite the financial turbulence of 2008 and lingering economic problems, stock prices have continued to climb for the companies in the index.
The Dow Jones Industrial Index was valued at 10,488 in January of 2005. In January 2015, the index's value was 17,165, almost 70 percent higher than its value 10 years ago. Its value in 2015 is also nearly 2.5 times its value of 7009 in February 2009, the lowest point for the index during the recession.
