Are there free downloads for Microsoft Virtual Earth?

As Microsoft changed Microsoft Virtual Earth into a completely online service under the name of Bing Maps, free downloads for it are no longer available, as of 2016. Trying to access the Web page of Virtual Earth redirects the browser to Bing Maps.

Bing Maps allows the user to access a map of the entire world with Internet browsers. The application can show satellite imagery as well as road maps. Alternatively, it can project roads onto satellite images. Site visitors use the controls at the top of the map to switch between viewing modes.

Users can also install Bing 3D to have the service put 3D models of important landmarks on the maps. The 3D extension is available for free at Bing.com.
