The best dressing for a seven-layer salad is a homemade mayonnaise and sour cream dressing. This type of dressing is the most common one served with the layered salad.

The seven layer salad dressing is made using 1 1/2 cups of regular or light mayonnaise and 1/2 cup sour cream. The dressing is seasoned with dill, dried basil and salt and ground black pepper to taste.

The dressing for this salad is spread on the top in a thick layer. It is recommended the salad be refrigerated for a few hours or overnight before it is served. The seven-layer salad is made with lettuce, eggs, parsley, peas, tomatoes, bacon, onion and cheese.
