Alcohol has a potent effect on triglyceride levels, according to Mayo Clinic. It's high in calories and sugar, and, therefore, can raise the level of triglycerides in the body's stored fat cells.
Triglycerides are a type of fat stored in the body. After a meal, the body stores the energy it doesn't need in fat cells, and this energy can be triggered and released by hormones between meals, Mayo Clinic explains. Drinking less alcohol is one way to decrease the amount of triglycerides in the body. Other measures that can be taken include avoiding sugary and refined foods, eliminating trans fats and exercising regularly.
