According to Mayo Clinic, foot drop, also known as drop foot, generally describes trouble with raising the front part of the foot. Although not a disease, foot drop is indicative of an underlying anatomical, muscular or neurological problem.
According to Mayo Clinic, foot drop can be either temporary or permanent. The condition may cause a foot to drag along the floor when walking. Typically only one foot is affected with foot drop, but both feet can be affected, depending on the cause.
According to WebMD, treating foot drop early heightens the chance of recovery. Treatment may include surgery, physical therapy, shoe inserts or lightweight braces.
