Nexium is also called esomeprazole, and it reduces the quantity of acid produced by the stomach. Nexium also manages symptoms that result from excessive production of acid in the stomach. However, a person should not expect immediate relief after using Nexium.
People who are allergic to esomeprazole or benzimidazole drugs are advised not to use Nexium. Patients who have liver disease or low magnesium levels in the blood should consult a doctor prior to using Nexium. There is also the possibility that a high dosage of Nexium increases the risk of getting fractures. Therefore, people with osteopenia, a condition where bone mineral has poor density, must seek the advice of a doctor before use.
