Where do ducks sleep?

Ducks sleep in covered areas, such as marshes and woods, on land or water. This not only provides them with a place to roost, but it protects them from predators.

Some species of ducks migrate during the nighttime hours. They spend the day eating, grooming and resting, then they take to the skies at night. Both long and short migratory patterns are seen with various ducks depending on the temperatures and habitat conditions. Heavily hunted areas can also cause ducks to migrate at night. When not migrating at night, ducks seek cover wherever possible in order for them to retain their body heat, especially when the weather turns cold.
