Since 2009, the Alcoa Eagle Cam at Davenport Works has monitored the nest of bald eagles Justice and Liberty and their nine eaglets. The nest is located in a cottonwood tree near the Mississippi River, about 80 to 85 feet above the ground.
Nearly 25 million people from around the world have tuned in to the Alcoa Eagle Cam, as of 2015. Eagles in Iowa tend to lay their eggs in mid- to late-February, with the eaglets hatching in about a month's time. The young birds grow quickly, and are ready to fly after only a couple of months. Viewers are particularly eager to view the nest during these exciting winter and spring months.
