There may be no noticeable symptoms during the early stages of liver cirrhosis. As the condition worsen, the patient may experience loss of appetite, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, yellowing of the skin, fluid retention, and swelling in the ankles, legs and abdomen, according to WebMD.
Liver cirrhosis occurs when scar tissue replaces the healthy tissue in the liver due to continuous liver damage, preventing it from functioning properly, reports NHS Choices. Late-stage symptoms include vomiting of blood or having tarry, black stools because of the increase in blood pressure which can burst smaller vessels that line the stomach and gullet.
