The length of days and nights are approximately 12 hours each in areas located on the equator. The equator is an imaginary line that runs around the Earth at 0 degrees latitude. It separates the planet into the North and South Hemispheres.
At the equator, the sun rises at around 6:00 a.m. each day and sets at around 6:00 p.m. each night. For example, the sun may rise at 6:03 a.m. on a day in July and at 6:11 a.m. on a day in February.
Countries that have areas located on the equator include Gabon, Kenya, Indonesia, Brazil and Ecuador. These areas will experience days and nights of approximately equal length throughout the year.
