Learning phonics makes learning how to read much easier. Phonics refers to the connection of letters to their individual sounds. When learning to read, a person first needs to become familiar with phonics, as it is the basis for reading.
In phonics, a person learns to associate a particular sound with its appropriate letter. The student learns to recognize the letters of the alphabet, and she follows with learning the sounds that are associated with each letter. After she familiarizes herself with the letters and learns the crucial connection those letters have with their distinct sounds, that person is on her way to learning how to read.
