Taste of Home, About.com and Martha Stewart feature easy raisin sauce recipes that involve mixing raisins, brown sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice and butter in a saucepan and heating the mixture until it thickens. Each recipe has its own individual spin.
For Taste of Home's raisin sauce, mix 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 2 tablespoons cornstarch, and 1 teaspoon ground mustard. Stir in 1 1/2 cups water, 1/2 cup raisins, 2 tablespoons white vinegar, 2 tablespoons lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring until the mixture is thickened. Stir in 2 tablespoons butter until it melts. This recipe yields 2 cups of raisin sauce.
About.com's raisin sauce is made the same way but calls for 1 cup raisins, 1 tablespoon vinegar and 1/4 teaspoons of grated lemon peel. This recipe makes 2 1/2 cups of raisin sauce.
Martha Stewart's recipe adds rum and is made to be used with ice cream. To make this recipe, combine 1/2 cup dark brown sugar in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir until the sugar has melted, which takes about 5 minutes. Remove the mixture from the heat and add 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, 1/4 cup dark rum, 1/4 cup golden raisins and 1/4 cup dark raisins. Stir until the butter has completely melted.
