What is an easy way to make a bird feeder?

An easy way to make a bird feeder is to use a natural material such as a pine cone, or household items such as bread, tea cups and wine bottles. In the fall, pine cones can be collected and used by attaching a string to the top for hanging.

Spread peanut butter or suet fat into the folds of the pine cone with a knife, and then roll it in bird seed. The seeds stick but remain easily accessible to the birds. Pine cone feeders can be hung from either branches or hooks.

A feeder can also be made by using a slice of bread. Leave a slice out to dry completely, and thread a string or wire through it with a thick needle. Leave enough room at the top so the string does not pull through. Spread peanut butter on both sides, and sprinkle it with bird seed.

A tea cup and saucer can double as a bird feeder. Glue the teacup to the saucer sideways so that it looks as if the seeds spill out from the cup. Add a hook and string or ribbon through the handle for easy hanging.

Wine bottles also make excellent feeders. Create a base using a small saucer. Drill holes in the side of the bottle where the seeds can be reached. Add wire or rope to the bottle neck, and hang.
