What eats a cougar?

Also known as catamounts, mountain lions and pumas, cougars are powerful hunters with no natural predators. However, the cats do compete with bears, wolves and other predators for food.

Cougars usually prey on white-tailed deer, but they also attack smaller mammals such as coyotes, porcupines and raccoons as well as livestock. From head to tail, the cats measure up to 9 feet in length and weigh up to 150 pounds. They were once prevalent across the Midwest, but hunting has limited the cats to Florida and much of the western United States into Canada. Unlike other wild cats, cougars cannot roar; instead they purr, similar to domestic house cats.
