What eats a coyote?

The primary predators of coyotes are wolves, though they do not have a predator/prey relationship. Two are in direct competition over prey animals, since both are considered to be at the top of the food chain.

In confrontations at prey sites, a pack of wolves is usually able to chase away the more solitary coyotes. This can lead to confrontations where one or the other may be killed and then eaten. Other animals known to prey upon coyotes include mountain lions, cougars and other species of large cats. As with wolves, it is confrontation that typically drives these encounters, with the large cats usually prevailing.
