What eats zebras?

Predators of zebras include African wild dogs, hyenas, leopards and lions. Zebras' stripes allow them to confuse predators when they are grouped together, because it makes it hard for a predator to pick out just one zebra to attack.

Zebras have naturally keen eyesight and hearing that help them detect predators coming, and they run up to 35 miles per hour to evade some predators. The zebra's kick is also powerful, and can cause serious injury when the animal is confronted. In a zebra herd, the stallion, which is the lead male, sounds an alarm when he spots danger, and then stays at the rear of the group to fight off predators while the females and young zebras flee.
