What are eco-friendly light bulbs?

Eco-friendly light bulbs are more energy-efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs, wasting less energy as heat and using fewer watts for illumination. The most-common eco-friendly bulbs are compact fluorescent lights, or CFLs, and light-emitting diode bulbs, or LEDs.

The CFL equivalent of a 60-watt bulb may only use 15 watts, while the LED equivalent may use as little as 6 watts. CFLs and LEDs are also more durable than incandescent bulbs. The average life span of an incandescent is around 1,200 hours, while a CFL bulb may reach a life span of 8,000 hours or more. LEDs are the uncontested king of longevity, however, with a life span that may reach 50,000 hours.
