What is audiology?

Audiology is a science and profession dedicated to the study, diagnosis and rehabilitation of hearing loss and other hearing related disorders. A practitioner of audiology is called an audiologist.
Audiologists employ a wide variety of techniques and equipment in order to diagnose and treat patients with hearing loss and other problems related to the ear. These methods include hearing balance tests, hearing aid fitting, ear drum inspection, ear wax removal and diagnostic testing. In addition, researchers in the field of audiology conduct research into various disorders of the hearing and vestibular systems, and provide treatment for certain balance disorders originating from the vestibular system.
