An effective window-cleaning solution combines 2 cups of water, 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 1/2 of a teaspoon of dish detergent. Another effective solution combines one part white vinegar and one part hot water, according to Martha Stewart.

Another window cleaning solution uses 3.5 ounces of Jet Dry, 4 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol, 1/4 cup of ammonia and a handful of powdered dish soap. This gets combined with about 2 gallons of hot water.

To clean windows with these solutions, use a combination of tools, such as a squeegee, lint-free cloths, straight-edge razor blades and natural or polyester sea sponges.
