Employer identification numbers for companies that are publicly traded can usually be found for free on the company websites for investor relations, reports the Houston Chronicle. Many companies have a page for filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
Employer identification numbers are also found in the SEC online database of all publicly traded companies, the Houston Chronicle explains.
EINs are issued to any business or individual who withholds money from his employees for taxing purposes, the IRS notes. Some trusts and estates also need EIN numbers. EIN numbers are obtained from the IRS. Anyone who loses his EIN may contact the IRS to retrieve the number.
