What are the elements of a standard debt collection letter?

A standard debt collection letter should include the name of the debtor, the amount owed, and a reminder to settle the defaulted debt, states eCollect. Such a reminder letter generally doesn't include a deadline for settling the debt, as no legal action is to be taken yet.
Debt collection agencies vary on the number of reminder letters they send, but it generally ranges between one and three reminders, reports eCollect. The final-demand letter sent after this letter has more specific content and a harsher tone. It includes all the information in the reminder letters and adds a warning that if the payment is not settled by a due date, the lender plans to seek legal action.
