What does an embedded tick look like?

An embedded tick may range from being barely visible to being the size of a pencil eraser depending on the type of tick. If embedded, there is a brown or black dot in the center of the site of the bite.

At the place where it is embedded, the skin is visibly reddened and may or may not be slightly raised. Sterilized tweezers may be used to remove a tick from the body, taking care to remove the entire body and not leave any of its parts in the skin. Twisting should be avoided as the tick is pulled out to prevent its head from breaking and remaining in the skin.
