Trademarks of Emo fashion include skinny jeans, converse sneakers, T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts. The Emo style is most popular among teenagers, and has its origins in both the punk rock movement of the 1980s and '90s, as well as the more melancholy alternative rock of the early 2000s.

One of the most important elements of Emo fashion is a pair of tight fitting skinny jeans, usually in dark colors. Skinny jeans are most often paired with hooded sweatshirts, often in solid black. Classic Emo T-shirts include vintage shirts and contemporary T-shirts with band names and logos displayed on them. Black rimmed glasses and black eyeliner are appropriate additions to Emo style.
