What is the energy of a moving object called?

The energy of an object in motion is known as kinetic energy. There is more kinetic energy in an object that is heavier and faster. Several types of kinetic energy exist, including vibrational, rotational and translational.
Vibrational kinetic energy is energy due to vibrational motion. Rotational kinetic energy is energy due to rotational movement. Translational energy is energy due to the motion from one location to another. Translational kinetic energy is dependent on two factors: an objects mass and an object's speed. The kinetic energy of an object is directly proportional to the square of its speed. Kinetic energy is scalar in quantity, meaning that it has no direction.
