You do not need any special equipment to detect water leaks. A water leak in your plumbing system can be detected by monitoring your water meter.

If no water is being used inside or outside your house and the leak indicator on your water meter is moving, then you likely have a water leak in your plumbing system. Alternatively, you can take a meter reading and recheck the meter an hour later. If the meter has moved from the first reading and no water was used between the two readings, then you likely have a water leak somewhere in your plumbing system.
