What is an Eskimo's boat called?

The umiak is a type of boat used by the Yupik and Inuit peoples. It is a skin-covered vessel still commonly found in whale-hunting villages in Alaska. The umiak utilizes a driftwood frame.
In the summer, the umiak transfers people and possessions to seasonal hunting grounds. It has earned the nickname "women's boat" because it is common for women of a whaling village to use umiaks for transportation. The umiak is shaped like a kayak, with walrus or bearded seal skins stretched over the frame to waterproof the vessel. Umiaks average 30 to 35 feet in length. There are several alternate names for the umaik, including the umialak and oomiac.
