The essential oils proven to improve memory loss include coconut, frankincense, rosemary and peppermint oil. A study done by Dr. Mary Newport in 2008 resulted in Alzheimer’s and dementia patients having increased short and long term memory after taking a daily regiment of these oils.
According to a study done by the University of Northumbria, smelling rosemary oil proved to increase memory. In healthy adults, it can increase memory functions by 60 to 75 percent. In adults who suffer from memory diseases, it can increase these functions by 30 to 50 percent. Even though these oils have been proven to increase memory function, it's not a cure.
