Euonymus fortunei, commonly known as wintercreeper, is a ground cover for either sunny or shady locations. The 'Coloratus' cultivar has dark green leaves that change to dark purple in fall and climb vertical surfaces.
Wintercreeper is an herbaceous perennial that is hardy in zones 4 though 9. It requires medium watering and maintenance and tolerates a wide variety of soils and soil conditions. Wintercreeper spreads by sending down roots from creeping stems and through seed dispersal by animals and birds. This plant has good tolerance for urban conditions. The Missouri Botanical Garden identifies wintercreeper as an invasive plant that may crowd out native species.
