What is an Evangelion or EVA?

Evangelion, or "Neon Genesis Evangelion," the full name of the Japanese television anime show, features giant robots known as Evangelion or EVA. The main character Shinji Ikari, a 14-year-old boy who pilots the Evangelion named EVA01, fights off invaders known as "angels" in a city called Neo Tokyo-3.

The plot of Evangelion centers around the relationship between Shinji and his estranged father who summons him to pilot the EVA01 to fight off the mysterious invaders.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is an extremely popular anime franchise that was first released in Japan in 1995. The original series spanned 26 episodes and spawned several movie releases.
