Someone running as fast as lightning, being so hungry they could eat a horse, or the inability to do anything right are all examples of everyday hyperbole. Hyperbole is just extremely exaggerating something.

For example, rather than simply saying that a man is tall, using hyperbole to say that he is "as tall as a house" leaves no doubt about the man's height.
