Evian water comes from springs located in Evian-les-Bains, a town in eastern France on Lake Geneva. The mineral water was first sold in 1908 in glass bottles. Danone, a French multinational corporation, assumed ownership of Evian in 1969. The mineral water was first sold in the United States in 1978.
Evian water became well-known in 1789 after the Marquis de Lessert experienced health benefits from drinking it. By 1824, visitors to the Evian-les-Bains spring were drinking and bathing in the water, which had a reputation for restoring a youthful mindset. Evian water contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium.
